At least about 35 minors have been challenged at the ongoing limited voters’ registration exercise in Ahafo region.
The Electoral Commission (EC) which started the exercise on the 17 June is expected to end on July 7, 2019.
In an interview sighted on Citi News in Goaso, the Ahafo Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Appiah Baffoe said a total of 14,000 people in the six constituencies in the region have so far registered and cards have been issued to them.
“For almost two and a half weeks that we started, the Ahafo region has been able to register about fourteen thousand applicants and more, this time we are very fortunate, as at now, we’ve gotten about 35 challenged as compared to the previous exercises, in-fact during the referendum exercise, for instance, they had more than 400 challenged but this time the entire region we’ve been able to register only 35. The bases are that about two of them are foreigners and others are underaged,” he explained.
Mr. Appiah Baffoe said the EC has set up a committee in place to investigate the cases.
“What we do is, we have a committee that set on the cases to adjudicate and we called that committee Registration Review Committee and it started from day one.”
